See the Besnard Lakes on Saturday at Mercury Lounge

October 1st, 2009

The Besnard Lakes: The name comes from a lake in Saskatchewan and the band comes from Montreal. In addition to owning Breakglass Studios, a Montreal recording studio, husband Jace Lasek (vocals and guitar) and wife Olga Goreas (vocals and bass) formed the now six-piece Besnard Lakes in 2001. The couple recorded nearly all of Volume 1, the band’s debut album, at their studio and then self-released it. In the ensuing years, Lasek and Goreas have added people to the band and a second album, The Besnard Lakes Are the Dark Horse, came out in 2007. But no matter the lineup, what remains constant is the couple’s keen penchant for pop hooks and ethereal sound. Check it out for yourself when the Besnard Lakes with (Brooklyn’s own ) Acrylics and the Cinnamon Band play Mercury Lounge on Saturday.
