Just Say UNKLE

October 20th, 2010

James Lavelle (founder of the Mo’ Wax label) and Tim Goldsworthy were British school friends who formed the electronica outfit UNKLE in the mid-’90s, which helped spur a downtempo backbeat revival ultimately termed trip-hop. Over the years they’ve recorded with and performed alongside a variety of musicians and producers. Their first album, Psyence Fiction, came out in 1998, and their most recent disc, Where Did the Night Fall, was released this past May. New music usually results in a new tour, and the guys in UNKLE (above, doing “Reign” at the Benicassim Festival in Spain) launch their first North American tour in more than three years at Webster Hall on Saturday night. As a further bonus, not only is UNKLE offering a free tour-sampler download, featuring two of the band’s songs plus two each by their support acts, Sleepy Sun, Ki:Theory and the Golden Filter, but you’ve also got a chance to win a limited-edition UNKLE Bearbrick toy signed by Lavelle.
