Get Some Black Prairie in Your Life

October 28th, 2010

Jenny Conlee, Chris Funk and Nate Query make up three-fifths of the Decemberists, an outfit known for high-quality folk-rock storytelling. But just like with everybody else, sometimes people in bands need to make changes, too. So when these three join together with a couple of other Portland, Ore., musicians, Jon Neufeld and Annalisa Tornfelt, they become Black Prairie. The band released an album, Feast of the Hunters’ Moon, in April, and now they’re out on the road. Think: bluegrass, strings and Americana. And think about seeing Black Prairie (above, playing “Crooked Little Heart” in the KCRW studio) tomorrow night at Mercury Lounge.
