Don’t Miss This Triple Bill at Mercury Lounge

January 6th, 2011

She may not be your typical rapper, but since it’s 2011, let’s not pigeonhole people anymore. Kristine Flaherty, who grew up listening to classic rock, funk and soul, majored in psychology and sociology at Stanford. As a sophomore she got some audio equipment and began making beats and recording music, which led to an on-campus show. Eventually she began performing as K. Flay, and what sets her apart is how much she does onstage—making beats, rapping, singing and playing guitar—plus she’s even been known to drop a little book-review knowledge. See what the fuss is all about when K. Flay (above, doing “Messin’ with My Head”) plays Mercury Lounge on Saturday night alongside producer and multi-instrumentalist Eric Frederic’s project Wallpaper and synth-pop quartet the Dance Party.
