Maps & Atlases and You

April 15th, 2011

Not many bands are equally influenced by folk and experimental music. But then, no other band is Maps & Atlases. The four-piece out of Chicago formed when its members—Shiraz Dada (bass), Dave Davison (guitar and vocals), Erin Elders (guitar) and Chris Haney (drums)—met in art school in 2004. They spent a couple of years toying with their sound, which was initially a bit more aggressive than what it’s become. Then after self-releasing several EPs, the band’s debut full-length, Perch Patchwork, came out last year. And you can see Maps & Atlases (above, doing “Every Place Is a House” for the Bellmont Sessions) live when they play The Bowery Ballroom on Tuesday with Delicate Steve and Gypsyblood.
