Rose Hill Drive Returns

April 20th, 2011

They started out hot. Brothers Jacob (vocals and bass) and Daniel Sproul (guitar) and high school friend Nathan Barnes (drums) formed Rose Hill Drive eight years ago in Boulder, Colo., a city known for a mellower sound than the power-rock trio’s. But with their high-energy live shows (like covering an album on New Year’s Eve), busy touring schedule and two LPs, Rose Hill Drive and Moon Is the New Earth, the group earned plenty of acclaim. They even found themselves opening for the Who. But then the guys in the band decided to put everything on pause, almost taking off a year and a half. Fortunately, they’re back—and they’ve made a change. Jacob now plays rhythm guitar to his brother’s lead and new member Jimmy Stofer takes over the bass. There’s even another album in the works, to be released later this year. And you just might hear some of those new songs when Rose Hill Drive (above, doing “Setting Sun”) plays Mercury Lounge on Saturday night.
