See Carney Next Monday at The Bowery Ballroom

July 21st, 2011

Looking for something to do on Monday night? Craving some rock ‘n’ roll with a bluesy twist and cinematic explosions? Then you definitely should go check out Carney at The Bowery Ballroom on 7/25. Carney is a solid quartet consisting of Jon Epcar (drums), Aiden Moore (bass) with brothers Zane Carney (guitar) and Reeve Carney (vocals). The band, originally from Los Angeles, recently relocated to the Big Apple so that Reeve could star as the lead in the Broadway hit Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. The group’s West Coast influence is definitely apparent in their breezy, carefree sound, which is meshed with a sort of sultry seduction.

It’s impossible to deny that these guys have some serious talent, making it no surprise that Interscope Records released their debut album, Mr. Green: Volume 1. “Love Me Chase Me” (played, above, at last year’s SXSW) the much talked about single, really showcases what these guys are all about: ripping guitars, sinister bass, heart-pounding percussion and a killer voice. Their songs have whimsy and a haunting feel to them that jumps back and forth between a lighthearted flirt as is portrayed in the crooning “Amelie” and a tantalizing drama such as “Nothing Without You.” Expect to see people decked out in Spider-Man suits and girls swooning at the sexiness that exudes from these dudes. But most important, look forward to an electric performance that is bound to totally rock and exceed your imagination. —Kristen Ferreira
