Six Organs of Admittance at Mercury Lounge

August 11th, 2011

Ben Chasny plays well with others. He’s the second guitar (not to be confused with second fiddle) in the psychedelic-rock group Comets on Fire, plus he’s been involved with August Born, Badgerlore and Rangda—amongst others. But he’s perhaps best known for his own psychedelic-folk project. It’s not exactly a solo effort, but since forming Six Organs of Admittance, and releasing an ambient-heavy eponymous debut, in 1998, Chasny has remained the centerpiece. Despite releasing an abundance of EPs, singles and albums since then, Six Organs’ sound has remained constant because, says Chasny, “If I want to play garage rock, I will start a new band, you know?” We do. It’d be no surprise if he does start a garage-rock band, but fortunately the talented guitarist is still sticking with Six Organs of Admittance. Check out the band’s newest album, Asleep on the Floodplain, take a look at Chasny, above, performing “Words for Two” and see Six Organs of Admittance play Mercury Lounge tomorrow night.
