A Record-Release Party at The Bowery Ballroom

April 6th, 2012

Emily Wells was a child prodigy, taking up the violin when she was just four and eventually self-releasing her own albums. She’s got a unique sound, thanks to a powerful voice and songs with electronic, orchestral, jazz and pop sensibilities. Wells, who’s also been known to rock a host of other instruments, including the glockenspiel, expertly mashes up the disparate styles of hip-hop and classical music. And while she employs loops when performing live, they’re never prerecorded. Instead she creates them onstage. See for yourself when Emily Wells (above, doing “Symphony 1: In the Barrel of a Gun” for KRCL FM in Salt Lake City) celebrates the release of her new album, Mama, on Monday at The Bowery Ballroom.
