Brooklyn’s Friends Play The Bowery Ballroom Tomorrow

July 6th, 2012

Samantha Urbani had never been in a band, but she’d always been writing songs with a dreamy dance vibe. So one day she gathered the courage to share them, first with Matt Molnar (multiple instruments) and Nikki Shapiro (guitar), and then with Oliver Duncan (drums) and Lesley Hann (bass), who, because of bed bugs, were temporarily shacking up with Urbani. The five of them began to jam and less than a week later they played their first show. The band, Friends (above, doing “Friend Crush” at the Fader Fort), began to steadily appear at different Bushwick venues and since then has garnered some considerable attention—from Stereogum, the Guardian and Prefix to name a few. Last month, the five-piece released an LP, Manifest!, filled with songs that make you want to dance, which is exactly what you can do tomorrow night at The Bowery Ballroom.
