Miike Snow Play Two

October 18th, 2012

About a decade ago, Swedish writer-producers Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg began to gain fame as Bloodshy & Avant, working with the dance queens like Madonna, Jennifer Lopez and Kylie Minogue, and winning a Grammy along the way for Britney Spears’s “Toxic.” But sometimes it’s more fun to make your own music, and so the childhood friends joined with another writer-producer, the New York City–based Andrew Wyatt, to form their own electropop band, Miike Snow. Their self-titled debut LP, filled with what Spin calls “cotton-candy psychedelia that sticks plush electro effects where backward guitar solos and frilly paisley shirts would ordinarily hang,” came out in 2009. Their follow-up, the more adventerous Happy to You (stream it below), came out this past spring. And Miike Snow (above, doing “Paddling Out” on The Late Show with David Letterman) are now on the last leg of their American tour. See them tomorrow night at the United Palace and on 10/23 at The Wellmont Theatre.
