A Balkan Alternative to St. Patrick’s Day at Webster Hall

March 13th, 2013

Ori Kaplan, formerly in Gogol Bordello, and Tamir Muskat, of Firewater, were born in Israel and met in Brooklyn. They were united by a love of music, and playing together—as Balkan Beat Box—they blend Balkan, klezmer and Mediterranean sounds with dub, electronica and hip-hop beats. The two were eventually joined by vocalist Tomer Yosef, and along with a rotating group of musicians, they have put out four albums filled with their unique sound since 2005, the most recent of which is last year’s Give (stream it below). And if you want to go out on St. Patrick’s Day but are looking to do something out of the ordinary (and maybe a little less obvious), go see Balkan Beat Box (above, performing “Bulgarian Chicks”) play Webster Hall on Sunday night.
