Hellfyre Club Brings Quality Underground Rap to Mercury Lounge

March 5th, 2014

Witty L.A. rapper Nocando started the indie label Hellfyre Club as an outlet for creative music by left-field underground rappers and other adventurous artists “for the purpose of melting minds and unsettling stomachs.” Nocando and friends—Busdriver (hyperliterate and intellectual), Milo (philosophical), Open Mike Eagle (formidable battle MC) and Billy Woods (uncategorizable)—teamed up on last year’s collaborative mixtape Dorner vs. Tookie. According to Pitchfork: “Nocando brings the hysterics, Busdriver is the ace technician, Open Mike Eagle’s a whiz with matching easygoing hooks to intimate person reflection, and Milo is the resident free-associative poet. Each shines on a solo cut or two, but it’s when they pair up that the mixtape starts to cook.” Speaking of which, these guys have taken their act on the road, crisscrossing the country as they make their way toward New York City for an unforgettable night of music tomorrow at Mercury Lounge.
