Dillinger Escape Plan Kick Off Tour Tomorrow at Webster Hall

April 2nd, 2014

New Jersey’s the Dillinger Escape Plan have been mixing hardcore, heavy metal and experimental rock into their own rhythmically complex kind of mathcore since the mid-’90s. Now a five-piece—singer Greg Puciato, guitarists Ben Weinman and James Love, drummer Billy Rymer and bassist Liam Wilson—they’ve put out five full-lengths since 1999. Their most recent, the acclaimed, and less aggressive but more melodic, One of Us Is the Killer (stream it below) arrived last May. AllMusic declared that the new material shifts “toward playing to the listener’s gut rather than head” and that “the album has a more visceral and in-the-moment feeling, so while there are still plenty of time-signature and genre changes scattered around the album, they end up feeling more like spontaneous fits of aggression than intellectual exercises.” And Dillinger Escape Plan (above, performing “Prancer” and “Behind the Wheel”) kick off a new tour tomorrow night at Webster Hall.
