See Ha Ha Tonka Play Mercury Lounge Tomorrow Night

July 15th, 2014

Brian Roberts (vocals and guitar), Brett Anderson (keys and vocals), Lennon Bone (drums and vocals) and Lucas Long (bass and vocals) formed the alt-country band Ha Ha Tonka a decade ago in Springfield, Mo. Their first album, Buckle in the Bible Belt (stream it below), arrived in 2007. Sputnik Music said, “From the album opener through the closer, this album is like a book you just cannot put down.” Ha Ha Tonka (above, performing “Rewrite Our Lives” for Audiotree Live) began touring extensively following the LP’s release, earning a reputation as a high-energy live band. Their fourth full-length—with a bigger sound than the four-piece’s previous recorded efforts—Lessons (stream it below), came out last year. PopMatters called it a “striking new album,” adding that it “combines the rustic twang of the Ozark region with Southern-rock riffs and a flair for inventive, melodic songwriting.” And you can see them tomorrow night at Mercury Lounge. Brooklyn grunge-gospel-country rockers Mail the Horse open the show.
