James McMurtry Plays The Bowery Ballroom Tomorrow Night

April 17th, 2015

Singer-songwriter James McMurtry has been making his own mark in the folk-Americana/ alt-country world for more than 25 years, since putting out his debut album, Too Long in the Wasteland (stream it below), in 1989. It should come as no surprise that he’s such a talented writer since his father is noted author Larry McMurtry and his mother was a longtime English professor. And despite the fact that McMurtry (above, doing “Copper Canteen”) tours regularly, he’s just recently released his first studio album, Complicated Game (stream it below), since 2008. Filled with a seamless blend of country, rock and blues, the LP was greeted with universal acclaim. Rolling Stone called it a “new Americana masterpiece,” and according to American Songwriter, “It’s an album that shows again and again that very few songwriters on this planet illuminate the oft-unfair rules of this game or the inner workings of the players quite like [McMurtry] can.” See for yourself how it all comes together live when James McMurtry plays The Bowery Ballroom tomorrow night. Talented Taos, N.M., singer-songwriter Max Gomez opens the show.
