Local Pop Duo Jack and Eliza Headline Mercury Lounge TonightMay 28th, 2015
Jack Staffen and Eliza Callahan (who won the John Lennon Songwriting Contest as a teen) met while attending different Brooklyn middle schools—and later studied guitar together in the East Village—before they began writing sunny surf-rock tunes together while at rival high schools. Their debut EP, Hold the Line (stream it below), out last year, has earned the pop duo comparisons to the likes of Brian Wilson and the Mamas & the Papas. And having recently completed their sophomore year in college (he at NYU, she at Columbia), Jack and Eliza (above, doing “Floodlights” for Ear Candy) headline the early show tonight at Mercury Lounge. Brooklyn trio the Britanys open the show.
