Get to Know Coleman Hell Next Tuesday at Mercury Lounge

October 16th, 2015

Coleman Hell, out of Thunder Bay, Ont., has been winning over fans with his gripping, raspy voice, thanks to a number of singles, including the genre-defying hit, “2 Heads.” He’s been attracted to a wide variety of music ever since checking out his parents’ record collection as a kid. “From Steely Dan to Springsteen to Thin Lizzy,” he remembers. “Then I grew up in the age of downloading where I could study any genre I wanted. I became obsessed. It was almost like homework for me, digesting every bit of music I could find in a genre and getting to the heart of why one song works and maybe another doesn’t.” He’s got a debut full-length due later this year, but you don’t have to wait that long to hear his music because Coleman Hell (above, doing an acoustic take on “Sharpshooter”) plays the late show at Mercury Lounge next Tuesday.
