The Gipsy Kings Bring Their Joyful Nosie to The Capitol Theatre

April 19th, 2016

The Gipsy Kings—a band from the South of France performing in Spanish—have been bringing their unique mix of rumba, flamenco and salsa with pop flourishes to a worldwide audience for nearly 40 years. The band, a mix of two families, began to receive global acclaim with the release of their eponymous third album (stream it below) in 1988. Over the years, their music’s taken on a more contemporary edge, incorporating Middle Eastern, South American and North African sounds in addition to bits of rock. Their most recent studio album, Savor Flamenco (stream it below), arrived in 2013 and went on to win the Best World Music Album at the Grammys—their sixth time winning the award. But the thing about the Gipsy Kings is no matter where in the world they are, they always bring their joyful noise. See them at The Capitol Theatre on Friday night.
