MS MR Kick Off the Weekend at The Bowery Ballroom

June 2nd, 2016

MS MR—singer Lizzy Plapinger and producer Max Hershenow—burst onto the scene as part of the chillwave genre with the release of the upbeat single “Hurricane” in 2012. Their first full-length, Secondhand Rapture (stream it below), arrived the following year to praise from Filter magazine: “Apt at harnessing the power of the pout, songs are left in the shadows, no minor key left unexplored. Theatrical, yes. But not without restraint. Blustery lead single ‘Hurricane’ illustrates, in particular, the band’s ability to downplay the melodrama—even as they blow us away.” MS MR (above, performing “Reckless”) returned in 2015 with their follow-up, How Does It Feel (stream it below), recorded in Bushwick. NME opined, “The duo’s second album is coated in glossy pop sheen, but it’s also full of depth and nuance.” MS MR return home to play The Bowery Ballroom tomorrow night. Transviolet open the show, but not too many tickets remain.
