With a New Album, Circa Survive Play Terminal 5 Tonight

September 14th, 2012

Singer Anthony Green and guitarist Colin Grangicetto had been in several emo and hardcore bands but were each looking to do something more progressive. So after recording some new music together, they hooked up with bassist Nick Beard, drummer Steve Clifford and guitarist Brendan Eckstrom to form Circa Survive (above, doing “Sharp Practice” for The Bowery Presents Live).

Since the release of Juturna in 2005, each successive album has gained the Philly band more acclaim and mainstream success, which continues with the just (self-)released and self-produced Violent Waves. In support of it, Circa Survive are out on tour, bringing their new tunes across the country. See them tonight at Terminal 5, with Touché Amoré, Balance and Composure and O’Brother.

The guys in Circa Survive talked to The Bowery Presents Live about listening to Metallica and Tool as kids and how, in self-financing and self-producing their new album, they learned to take creative compromise a step further and to work together in a more constructive way. Watch the interview.
