Bloc Party Play The Wellmont Theatre Tonight
January 11th, 2013Four years after the release of their previous album, Intimacy, which The Guardian called “brave, individual and heartfelt,” Bloc Party put out their fourth album, the aptly named Four (stream it below), this past summer. The decade-old British quartet—Kele Okereke (vocals and guitar), Russell Lissack (guitar), Gordon Moakes (bass and synth) and Matt Tong (drums)—celebrated the guitar-centric LP’s release with an August show at Terminal 5 that also streamed live on The Bowery Presents Live channel on YouTube. And now Bloc Party (above, performing “Helicopter”) are back in town again. See them play The Wellmont Theatre tonight.

Their newest album, Four, comes out in two weeks, and this week they play Terminal 5 three times: today, tomorrow and Thursday. Each show is already sold out, and although Wednesday’s will stream live in HD on The Bowery Presents Live beginning at 9:30 p.m., The House List is giving away two tickets. Want to go? Bombay Bicycle Club’s post-punk reverb-drenched guitar rock has earned the North London quartet comparisons to the likes of Bloc Party and Vampire Weekend. You can see the similarities—and why The Guardian says “BombayBicycle Club are special”—on this intimate take on the dance-influenced “Shuffle” for The Bowery Presents Live.
After performing, the young group talked about how being in a band allows them to tour the world, where they get their inspiration and perhaps needing to be a bit more ambitious. Watch the interview here.
