When Danny Musengo was the lone survivor of a car accident it gave him a fresh outlook on life. So he decided to leave behind Iowa in favor of New York City, where he planned to dedicate himself to music—he’d grown up singing gospel songs in church. First Musengo met producer and guitarist Dan Teicher, and the two began crafting lush soundscapes, but they needed more musicians to perform live. Enter: drummer Walker Adams, violinist Molly Fletcher, vocalist Laura Martin and keyboardist Isamu McGregor, and the six-piece the Ludlow Thieves (above, performing “All the Money”) was born in 2012. They make big music touching on roots, rock, folk and gospel (or as they describe it, “the energy of roaring lions and lovemaking llamas channeled through a gospel singer from Iowa”). And despite the fact that they still remain unsigned, the Ludlow Thieves continue to rise, and they headline The Bowery Ballroom tomorrow night.
