Electric Six—six dudes from Detroit fronted by singer Dick Valentine—have been mashing together disco, punk, New Wave, metal and garage rock into their own viable sound for more than a decade. They first found recognition with the 2003 release of Fire and its singles “Danger! High Voltage” and “Gay Bar.” Since then, the lineup has gone through several changes as the band put out seven more albums, including last year’s Heartbeats and Brainwaves. And this weekend, Electric Six (above, doing “Danger! High Voltage” on Later … with Jools Holland) play Mercury Lounge tonight and tomorrow.
