Guitarist Dan Balis and keyboardist Eugene Cho met at Vassar College and started making house music together under the name Escort about 10 years ago. Initially it was just a studio project, but they sensed they were on to something bigger. And while it’s disco music, it remains contemporary rather than feeling like a throwback. One thing that really sets Escort apart from other dance-music purveyors is the lack of samples and computers in their live shows. Instead, Balis and Cho front a 17-piece band, making them a live act not to miss. So don’t. Watch them, above, doing “Cocaine Blues,” stream their most recent album, Escort Remixed, below, and then join in on the dance party when Escort play The Bowery Ballroom tomorrow night.
