Three years ago Rishi Dhir (vocals, sitar, bass), Miles Dupire (drums), Gabriel Lambert (guitar, vocals) and Stephen “Venk” Venkatarangam banded together to form Elephant Stone. The Montreal group plays psychedelic rock with bits of traditional Indian music, featuring Dhir’s sitar. Their 2009 debut album, the trippy The Seven Seas (stream it below), was long-listed for the prestigious Polaris Music Prize, awarded to the best Canadian full-length album each year. And the band’s second LP will come out next February. But the guys in Elephant Stone (above, playing “Don’t You KNow”) have remained busy in between: Dhir had two kids, and the group has toured across Europe, North America and even Iceland. However, you won’t have to travel that far to see them this week because they play the early show at Mercury Lounge tomorrow night.
