Davye Hawk was once the frontman of a band called Hail Social, but when that ended he decided to go solo, first under the name Memory Cassette, then Weird Tapes and finally Memory Tapes. His first LP, the dance-pop-filled Seek Magic, has been very well received, and Memory Tapes (above, performing “Plain Material”) played live, with a drummer and backing track, for the first time last year in England.
