OK Go Makes It Rain

November 1st, 2010

OK Go – Terminal 5 – October 29, 2010

OK Go - Terminal 5 - October 29, 2010

In a time when the price of a concert ticket sometimes feels like a burden, OK Go is doing its part to make sure audiences get the most bang for their buck. In a nearly two-hour affair on Friday night at Terminal 5, the Chicago foursome showed videos, shot lasers from their guitars and unleashed an acre-of-forest’s worth of brightly colored confetti. They covered a large amount of their three-album discography, including a healthy dose of their release from earlier this year, Of the Blue Colour of the Sky.

The obvious peaks of the show had to do with their biggest of their big hits. Songs turned Internet crazes, like “Here It Goes Again,” had the young crowd loudly screaming in semi-unison early in the set, while the band saved the even bigger moments for later. Lead singer Damian Kulash announced at one point that it was “campfire time,” and proceeded to march into the center of the crowd with his acoustic guitar and microphone stand in tow. Right after that the band premiered the 3-D version of their newest video masterpiece, the trained-dog-filled “White Knuckles.”

Throughout the night the group, clad in monochromatic suits of very primary colors, was exhilarating to watch, especially through the recurring nor’easter of confetti. They finished the night with one last megahit, “This Too Shall Pass,” while Kulash crowd-surfed. Even after OK Go was gone from the stage, people stayed and danced to the house music amidst the confetti like they were celebrating the first snow, while a trail of colored paper extended out of the venue and down the streets. —Sean O’Kane

OK Go Is Back

March 4th, 2010

You may remember the four-piece OK Go from their stellar “Here It Goes Again” video (think treadmills). And in this day and age, when we’re constantly bombarded with 24-hour news and an array of viral videos, it’s often hard to stay in the public’s conscience for any length of time. But OK Go is back with a new album, Of the Blue Colour of the Sky—their third studio LP—and this very cool video for the catchy “This Too Shall Pass.” And if that weren’t enough, they’ll also be back in New York City, playing Music Hall of Williamsburg on Friday, 4/30. Tickets go on sale tomorrow at noon. Get in there.
