May 1st, 2014

Australian singer-songwriter Elizabeth Rose may have only a pair of EPs to her name,

fans from Oceania to New York City while earning her comparisons to the likes of the Knife and Little Dragon. And with the recent release of the ethereal Elizabeth Rose
(stream it below), the follow-up to 2012’s Crystallise (stream it below), Rose (above, performing “Good Life” live on Triple J) has hit the road, performing live with synths player Alex Dawson. And they come to New York City this week. See her play Mercury Lounge tomorrow night. Multi-instrumentalist Louis Schwardon’s psych-pop alter ego,

Deadbeat Darlings Play a Hometown Show Tomorrow

December 19th, 2012

When his previous band broke up, Joseph King (vocals and guitar) left Austin, Texas, for New York City, where he continued to write new songs and play solo shows around town. Slowly but surely, King began gigging with other people, and eventually Deadbeat Darling—now with Mohit Bhansali (guitar and vocals), Ian Everall (bass) and Evan Howard (drums)—playing an eclectic mix of dub, reggae, surf rock and trip hop, were born. Their first LP, Weight of Wandering, came out in 2009, and the follow-up, The Angel’s Share (stream it below), was released at the beginning of this year. Deadbeat Darling (above, doing an acoustic version of “Flowers for Our Graves” at SXSW) have steadily toured ever since, and you can see them—alongside the Stationary Set, Desert Stars and Sky White Tigertomorrow night at The Bowery Ballroom.
