See Acclaimed French Metal Band Gojira Tonight in Williamsburg

February 18th, 2013

With the release of their first album, 2001’s Terra Incognita, Gojira—Joe Duplantier (vocals and guitar), Christian Andreu (guitar), Mario Duplantier (drums) and Jean-Michel Labadie (bass)—earned comparisons to Tool and Pantera, in thanks to their loud progressive groove metal. Over the ensuing years, the band from Bayonne—France, not Jersey—known for environmental themes, has steadily grown in popularity and earned acclaim for high-energy live shows and an impressive recorded catalog of DVDs, EPs and LPs, including last year’s L’Enfant Sauvage (stream it below). The A.V. Club says it’s the four-piece’s “most articulate release to date, and that’s saying something.” They are currently winding down their North American tour, so watch Gojira, above, performing “The Art of Dying,” and then go see them play Music Hall of Williamsburg tonight.
