Check Out Blockhead and Emancipator on Friday

January 26th, 2011

Like many a downtown kid, Anthony Simon grew up immersed in rap. But upon meeting an up-and-coming MC, Aesop Rock, in the mid-’90s at Boston University, he decided to forgo rapping to focus on becoming a producer. And while Simon has successfully provided beats for Aesop Rock and others, his yearning to perform never subsided. So he struck out on his own, performing as Blockhead (above, the video for “Music Scene”). He’s put out four albums, covering territory from trip-hop to downtempo, brooding instrumentals, and he performs live, which brings him to Music Hall of Williamsburg on Friday, coheadlining with another producer turned rapper, Emancipator.
