Get Onboard YACHT on Wednesday Night

April 25th, 2011

Jona Bechtolt attended an alternative school program in Portland, Ore., called Young Americans Challenging High Technology. For short, it was known as Y.A.C.H.T. So when the electronic musician and multimedia artist started a solo project, he decided to call it YACHT, as an homage. With three albums and several art-related appearances in NYC, it remained a one-man band for several years before Bechtolt linked up with vocalist (and artist and science writer) Claire Evans. The duo put out a fourth disc, See Mystery Lights, in 2009. And when they play live, as they will on Wednesday night at Webster Hall, YACHT (above, performing “Psychic City”) expands to a four-piece, rounding out their sound with drummer Jeffrey Brodskey and bassist-vocalist Rob “Bobby Birdman” Kieswetter, who, along with Light Asylum, opens the show.
