Two Nights of Bell X1

June 1st, 2011

Bell X1, one of Ireland’s most popular groups, formed in the late ’90s and released a debut LP, Neither Am I, in 2000. The album didn’t really take off outside of the Emerald Isle, but due to their high-energy shows, the band, whose curious name actually comes from the first plane to break the sound barrier, began to earn the reputation as one not to miss when they visited your town. As Bell X1 (above, playing “Rocky Took a Lover” on Late Show with David Letterman) released more albums, critical acclaim and album sales mounted. As such, their fifth full-length disc, Bloodless Coup, came out earlier this spring, and the band’s tour in support of it brings them to The Bowery Ballroom next Monday and Tuesday.
