Get in the Groove with Perpetual Groove on Saturday Night

August 18th, 2011

It’s kind of like an equation: Add together funk, Southern rock, some synth loops here and there, a healthy dose of improvisation, plus plenty of jamming and you’ve got Perpetual Groove. The four-piece, now based out of Athens, Ga., got its start when Brock Butler (vocals and guitar), Brett Hinton (keys), Adam Perry (bass) and Joe Stickney (drums) first met as freshmen at Savannah College of Art and Design. Eventually Albert Stuttle and John Hruby replaced Stickney and Hinton, but with a name like Perpetual Groove (above, performing “We Don’t Care”), it’s safe to say the band’s groove remained despite the change in personnel. The best way to experience these guys is live and in person, which works out great since they play The Bowery Ballroom on Saturday night.
