Don’t Miss Maxïmo Park Tomorrow Night at Webster Hall

September 12th, 2012

England’s Maxïmo Park originally began as an avant-garde quartet with Tom English (drums), Duncan Lloyd (guitar), Archis Tiku (bass) and Lukas Wooler (keys), without a designated singer. But when they decided they wanted to go beyond rehearsing for fun and actually play shows, through an old girlfriend of English’s, the band found Paul Smith (vocals), which was sort of ironic as Smith had never before sung onstage. But the new lineup worked, and the Newcastle five-piece began crafting catchy post-punk songs influenced by the likes of the Jam and the Smiths. Earlier this summer, Maxïmo Park (above, playing “Reluctant Start” for NME TV) released their fourth album, the acclaimed The National Health, and now you can see them tomorrow night at Webster Hall.
