Three Chances to See DeVotchKa This Weekend

September 14th, 2012

Multi-instrumentalists Nick Urata, Tom Hagerman, Shawn King and Jeanie Schroder formed DeVotchKa in Denver nearly 15 years ago. Playing gypsy punk, the quartet originally served as a backing band for burlesque shows and even hit the road with Dita Von Teese. Eventually they began touring behind self-released albums, slowly gaining a following. DeVotchKa (above, playing “Queen of the Surface Streets” for Fearless Music) then hit the mainstream after scoring the Academy Award–winning Little Miss Sunshine. Last year they released their sixth studio album, 100 Lovers, and the band is coming to New York City to play three shows this weekend: tonight and tomorrow at The Bowery Ballroom, and on Sunday at Music Hall of Williamsburg.
