Get Ready to Rock with Two Nights of High on Fire

November 28th, 2012

When singer-guitarist Matt Pike’s doom-metal band Sleep broke up, the often-shirtless Pike wasn’t going to just sit idly by. Instead, he formed the even-faster-paced stoner-metal group High on Fire with drummer Des Kensel and bass player George Rice, who’s since been replaced by Jeff Matz. The power trio, “less a band than a supersonic exercise in conquest by volume and sheer heaviness,” has steadily released new music—six LPs, including this year’s acclaimed De Vermis Mysteriis (stream it below)—and hit the road, touring the country. And their current tour brings the Oakland group to NYC to play The Bowery Ballroom on Friday and Music Hall of Williamsburg on Saturday.
