Influential Band the Suburbs Play Mercury Lounge Tonight

September 27th, 2013

Alternative punk band the Suburbs formed in, well, the suburbs of Minneapolis in 1977, playing a cool mix of punk, funk and New Wave. They steadily gained fans throughout the ’80s, but due to a lack of radio play, the Suburbs (above, performing “Music for Boys”) broke up in 1987, only to reform five years later. They continued playing shows on and off, reissuing older material and releasing greatest-hits packages. But last month, after 27 years, they put out their first album of new music, Si Sauvage (stream it below). And you can hear some of the those new tunes tonight at Mercury Lounge.
