Don’t Miss Alternative Hip-Hop Duo Blue Scholars Tomorrow Night

October 3rd, 2013

Not your typical hip-hop group, Blue Scholars (blue-collar intellectuals) make what they call “cinema-art rap” about the plight of the working class and youth empowerment. The Seattle duo—DJ Sabzi (Saba Mohajerjasbi) and MC Geologic (George Quibuyen)— originally met at the University of Washington more than a decade ago. They decided to skip a class and begin making music together, and they’ve been doing it ever since. Their most recent LP, Cinemetropolis (stream it below), came out in 2011, but Blue Scholars (above, doing “Slick Watts” live in studio for KEXP FM) remain vital, releasing new music on the Internet and playing energetic live shows. And to that end, you can see them take the stage tomorrow night at Music Hall of Williamsburg.
