Savages Play Terminal 5 Tonight

October 16th, 2013

The post-punk quartet Savages—Jehnny Beth (vocals), Ayse Hassan (bass), Fay Milton (drums) and Gemma Thompson (guitar)—have only been together for a couple of years. But their blistering guitar-fueled sound, “indestructible and musically solid, written for the stage, designed with enough nuances to provide a wide range of emotions,” drew the four ladies from London plenty of attention during last year’s CMJ Music Marathon. This past spring, Savages (above, doing “I Am Here” at this year’s Pitchfork Music Festival) released their debut full-length, Silence Yourself (stream it below), to some noisy fanfare. Pitchfork gave the LP, which was recently shortlisted for the prestigious Mercury Prize, its Best New Music designation and wrote: “The album cuts through a world of chatter and distraction because it practices what it preaches, transmitting its message directly through the primal, bone-rattling force of its songs.” Feel that force tonight at Terminal 5.
