Born Ruffians Play Music Hall of Williamsburg with Twin Peaks

November 6th, 2013

Born Ruffians (above, performing “6-500”) began as a rock trio in Midland, Ont., with Luke Lalonde on vocals and guitar, Mitch Derosier on bass and Steve Hamelin on drums. But they’d moved to Toronto by the time their debut full-length, Red, Yellow & Blue, arrived in 2008 to much acclaim. In mentioning its “witty wordplay and jingle-jangle joy,” Pitchfork called the album one of the “year’s most engaging and endearing indie-rock debuts.” Their follow-up, 2010’s Say It, was  more spare. But with the addition of Andy Lloyd (guitar and keys) for this year’s Birthmarks (stream it below), Born Ruffians’ sound is fuller and more nuanced. See them tomorrow night at Music Hall of Williamsburg, when they’ll be joined by Chicago four-piece Twin Peaks and their fuzzy rock and roll.
