Two Chances to See Active Child

November 13th, 2013

Pat Grossi was once a choirboy in Philadelphia, but after high school in L.A. and college in Colorado, he found himself back in California experimenting with electronic and choral music. Grossi came upon just the right mix of the two and began making atmospheric music featuring his falsetto voice and talented harp playing interwoven with instrumental samples, as Active Child. His first LP, the auspicious You Are All I See, came out in 2011. Ellie Goulding covering the album’s “Hanging On” a year later gained Active Child even more attention. But Grossi (above, doing “Johnny Belinda” for KEXP FM), who often performs live with an electronic-kit drummer and a multi-instrumentalist, returned just a few weeks ago with a new EP, the more accessible Rapor (stream it below), which Tiny Mix Tapes calls “a cathedral of light.” Touring behind the new material, Active Child plays The Bowery Ballroom tonight and Music Hall of Williamsburg tomorrow.
