The Ike Reilly Assassination Bring New Music to Mercury Lounge

July 16th, 2015

He is perhaps best described by AllMusic: “Breaking new ground within the exploration of pure-styled rock and roll, Ike Reilly unveils an unusual ability as a songwriter, venturing to assault the ruggedness of hard rock tones and forwarding crude and fierce lyrics within his songs.” Of course, he’s best known as the frontman of the guitar-heavy Ike Reilly Assassination (above, doing “Hangin’ Around”). And while it’s been six years since the Chicago seven-piece—Reilly (vocals and guitar), Dave Cottini (drums and vocals), Phil Karnats (guitar), Pete Cimbalo (bass and vocals), Adam Krier (piano and vocals), Tommy O’Donnell (guitar) and Ed Tiney (piano)—last put out an album, the release of Born on Fire (stream it below) last month was well worth the wait. “To say this is exciting, unpredictable, idiosyncratic American rock and roll is not to do it justice,” according to American Songwriter. “Established cult Reilly fans might know what to expect, but even they will be thrilled with the sheer dynamic gusto and rollicking groove he unleashes. It’s pure, unaffected and raw, adjectives that have always described Reilly and result in this explosive album, the culmination of his extensive years in the trenches.” Experience the new tunes live when the Ike Reilly Assassination play the early show tonight at Mercury Lounge, with Jane Lee Hooker, and then return for the late show tomorrow night at Mercury Lounge, with the Bottom Dollars.
