The Wombats Return to Play Terminal 5 Tomorrow NightNovember 23rd, 2015
Dan Haggis (drums, keys and backing vocals), Matthew Murphy (vocals, guitar and keys) and Tord Øverland-Knudsen (bass, keys and backing vocals) became friends more than 10 years ago at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts and shortly after formed the Wombats, “rambunctious New Wave revivalists with a savagely tongue-in-cheek sense of humor,” per AllMusic. The trio (above, performing “Greek Tragedy”) released their third full-length, Glitterbug (stream it below), this past April, impressing critics and fans alike. “Musically, the songs on Glitterbug are as catchy as anything they’ve done previously, and the group’s layered, kinetic productions perfectly showcase Murphy’s resonant, insistent croon. However, what sets the Wombats apart from their dance-club-minded brethren are Murphy’s distinctive lyrics,” according to AllMusic. “Ultimately, it’s this kind of life-is-short pop energy, imbued with Murphy’s well-curated sense of time and place, that helps elevate the Wombats’ Glitterbug from just a one-crazy-night soundtrack to an album that might stick with you for years to come.” Find out what it all sounds like live when the Wombats play Terminal 5 tomorrow night. Royal Teeth and Pop Etc open the show.
(This show was rescheduled from 9/15. All tickets from that night will be honored.)
