The Werks Play The Bowery Ballroom on Saturday Night

February 5th, 2016

Since forming a decade ago in Dayton, Ohio, the lineup for the Werks has gone through some change, but the band’s genre-mixing improvisational sound continues to cover the dance-friendly musical terrain of rock, funk and psychedelia with a liberal dose of jamming thrown into the mix. Their most recent recorded work, Inside a Dream (stream it below), came out last fall. It’s a concept album covering the various realms of dreaming. “Inside A Dream is the Werks’ magnum opus, 11 tracks of sweeping compositions that perfectly merge the cohesiveness of a concept album with the spontaneous spirit of the jam band,” according to the Huffington Post. “Capturing the magic of the jam experience can be a challenge in the recording studio but the Werks have managed to achieve it.” And before Rob Chafin (drums and vocals), Dino Dimitrouleas (bass and vocals), Chris Houser (guitar and vocals) and Dan Shaw (keys and vocals) head out West for a string of shows in Colorado, the Werks (above, doing “Better Than Before”) play The Bowery Ballroom tomorrow night. The Burlington, N.C., six-piece Big Something open the show.
