Mystic Braves Come to Rough Trade NYC on Saturday NightSeptember 16th, 2016
Julian Ducatenzeiler (vocals and guitar), Tony Malacara (bass and vocals), Cameron Gartung (drums), Shane Stotsenberg (guitar and vocals) and Ignacio Gonzalez (organ) formed the psychedelic-garage-rock group Mystic Braves five years ago in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. And while the band’s first two releases have a grittier, lo-fi sound, their third, last year’s Days of Yesteryear (stream it below), is a more polished affair. “The 10-track psych-rock album sounds like a forgotten gem from the late ’60s that turned up at the back of some paisley-filled closet in the Electric Prunes’ basement,” according to the Wall Street Journal. “The songs are full of Farfisa organ, quavering guitars and wispy, ethereal vocal harmonies.” Mystic Braves (above, doing “Mystic Rabbit”) play Rough Trade NYC tomorrow night. Jeffertitti Moon’s the Dream Ride opens the show.
