Midnight Magic Will Have You Dancing at Rough Trade NYC Saturday

January 19th, 2018

Influenced by funk and dance acts from the late-’70s and early-’80s, Tiffany Roth, Morgan Wiley, William Andrew Raposo, Carter Yasutake, Max Goldman, Nick Roseboro, Jason Disu, Caito Sanchez and Andrew Frawley formed the get-you-to-the-dance-floor cosmic disco ensemble Midnight Magic earlier this decade in Brooklyn. They honed their live chops opening for the likes of Holy Ghost! and Cut Copy, and their most recent release, Free from Your Spell (stream it below), arrived in fall 2016 courtesy of Soul Clap Records. “Brooklyn’s Midnight Magic are a nine-piece band making dance music aimed straight at clubgoers—a rarity in an era when the phrase dance music conjures up either the image of EDM-festival headliners in goofy masks or bass experimentalists tinkering alone behind their laptops,” said Spin. “As you might expect, they make music that recreates the communal, joyous feeling of classic disco.” Experience it for yourself when Midnight Magic (above, doing “What the Eyes Can’t See”) play Rough Trade NYC on Saturday night. Brooklyn experimental-Afrobeat septet Underground System open the show.
