Hippo Campus Headline The Bowery Ballroom Tomorrow

June 7th, 2016

Jake Luppen (vocals and guitar), Nathan Stocker (guitar and vocals), Zach Sutton (bass) and Whistler Allen (drums and vocals) met in high school in Minnesota at the Saint Paul Conservatory of Performing Artists, before going on to form the melodic-pop four-piece Hippo Campus in 2013. Their first EP, Bashful Creatures (stream it below), arrived the next year, followed by a second EP, South (stream it below), out in 2015. According to the A.V. Club, “The songs are orchestrated yet still wildly energetic, while vocalist Jake Luppen elevates each track with his confident swagger.” Somewhere along the way, Hippo Campus (above, doing “Souls” live in studio for New York City’s WFUV FM) have become known for their energetic, upbeat live sets, and they play The Bowery Ballroom tomorrow. Lincoln, Neb., six-piece Oketo open the show.
